servers have been up all day today, confirmed. So day ONE of the release they were offline about 40% of the time, playable 60%. Day 2, up 100%. I am assuming you mean they phoned it in with WoW in a release sense, because WoW is single handedly the most successful video game ever made. Diablo 3 thusfar has yet to disappoint at all. Seamless gameplay when you're actually in-game. Fun in groups, solo, etc. A beautifully executed slasher. A++++

holy wall of text, but in the interest of full disclosure, I look at D3 as a time waster until GW2 comes out

To me there's a difference between being a realist, which I also consider myself to be, and a blind fanboy. I think Blizz has been phoning it in for awhile now with WOW, and it just bothers me that the way they released D3 shows they are still in the same mindset. Hell MOP for me at least is the death rattle of a game I put way to much time into. I'm not angry, or raging, or anything like a lot of people are, and I find it humorous that people can get that mad over a game. (ie go outside nerdlings!!) I also don't want to give them a pass however for what I consider a fuckup they could have avoided but cared less not to.

i agree with both sides of the argument. i don't consider myself taking it up the ass though for expecting a day or two TOPS of server buggery. if it lasts for a week i'd start to get a bit peeved. thankfully, server's been fine on my end all day so far so it seems it's gradually getting sorted

afaik no. they had issues for about 24 hours and blizzard's army of asians got that shit working ezpz

i dont remember month-long authentication issues and server down problem since early classic. maybe i wasn't paying attention though. Ultimately, it's a game. It's hard for me to be mad that my game doesn't work. All logic and business discussions aside, it's just a computer game. A particularly enjoyable one that will be even more enjoyable when I can log in regularly. Have the servers been down today at all>?

i dont think it's reasonable as a consumer to have expected anything other than this. And I dont think it's fiscally intelligent as a business to structure an entire system around a huge release when that singular event will not occur more than once in the lifecycle of a product.

not sure how but i think they'll make it up to people in some way.

when WoW was this bad at release they gave everyone a free month of gameplay. and some more free days/weeks here and there. I don't really feel like blizzard says "fuck you" to their customers on that front. I think their track record is pretty solid.

I'm sure you'll say I'm wanting some sort of reach around from Blizzard, and that's not the case, I don't expect them to care about me, I do expect them to put out a product that's usable when it's purchased however. And the amount of people that seem to be ok with getting shit on and write it off as "oh it's release day, it'll be fixed in a month" must like taking it up the ass I guess.

And again, you missed the point. I'm saying that the simultaneous release was a dumb idea. A tiered (staggered) release would have garnered much less nerd rage and would have gone smoother. You don't think that Blizzard knew that their system wouldn't handle the load? The fact that they did nothing even with knowing and just "stayed the course" shows how much they give a shit about their customers.

They will get it sorted out almost as much as it will sort itself out once people just stop logging in at the same time. When WoW first came out they had these issues too. It's just how it is, servers can't handle that load without a huge investment. It's better for them to take the PR hit on the first few weeks. It's not like they're worried they'll lose people to WoW or anything like every other MMO is totally scrutinized for.

And tray, I work for a company where we consider scenarios like blizzard does. Fact of the matter is, from a business standpoint they already have your business. Additionally, I do not know of a system in existence that can handle 5 million + simultaneous logins. It just doesn't work. You would need to completely engineer something for that from the ground up and that's not cost-effective. Especially for a company that sells video games.

total hack n slash. it's more refined though. really like how it's not a free for all lootgrab where the person with the best connection/lives closest to california wins every time.

I will say that i wasn't interested in d3 when it was announced because it was so similar to d2, which was a complete cluster. I've only played a little so far, it feels like d2 but it seems like they have fixed a lot of the stupid garbage

I'm not going to give blizzard a pass for fuckups but I'm not going to rage over them, because well they're blizzard and I know how they are at this point.

I'm also not saying not to be excited for it, and I do laugh at the rage but blizzard just stayed true to form on the d3 release. People seem to think that d2 blizzard is the same company as they are now I guess

The annual pass was to keep people paying for wow when star wars came out.

I don't fault blizzard for not having the servers to handle the load. I fault them for being moronic enough to go with a world release, instead of a tiered one. I'll also fault any WOW player for not realizing there would be problems as well.
